RESULT: MATCH DRAWN SHREWSBURY 16PTS MOSELEY 9PTS
Early morning rain saw the start of the match delayed to 3.20pm and reduced to 29 overs per side.
Utilising the “uncontested toss” rule, the visitors opted to field first. Brinder Phagura supported by captain Fred Eburah made early inroads into the Shrewsbury batting as they struggled to 30 for 4 in the 12th over before a fifth wicket partnership of 62 in just eight overs between Panayi and Hodge helped the hosts reach their final total of 147 for 8 from their 29 overs.
Against a Shrewsbury bowling attack, including four county contracted bowlers, Griffin and Patel gave the “Griffs” a solid start despite being behind the required run rate in the chase for victory.
A familiar middle order collapse saw Moseley struggle to 99 for 6 in the 29th over, but a late flourish led by Nandra earned the “Griffs” a valuable third batting bonus point and prevented the hosts from securing a 10-point winning draw.
With the season fast approaching the mid -point only 17 points separate third to eleventh place in the league and all points gained are vital!
Next week, weather permitting, the Griffs are at home to Smethwick.
